RESIDENTS have been urged to prepare for a storm which is expected to hit the coast late this afternoon.

The Bureau of Meteorology climate and weather information officer John Relf said the storm will start about 4pm and go right through the night.

``The storm will peak at about 9.30pm,’’ he said.

``Everyone needs to beware and take care.

``It’s going to get pretty gusty.’’

Western Power was able to restore more than 20,000 properties overnight with just 18,000 left without power at the moment.

The most affected country areas include Donnybrook with 1445 customers out and Pinjarra with 1305.

There is currently a gale warning, storm warning, strong wind warning and severe weather warning in place for the South West region.

The City of Bunbury will continue to clean up debris, secure buildings and keep roads clear for emergency services.

A spokeswoman said they will also continue to work with FESA to minimise damage to the area and respond to calls for assistance.

`` The City of Bunbury is warning all residents to stay home or indoors, clear and secure any loose material that could become airborne and do not put any waste on the verge,’’ she said.

For emergency assistance call FESA on 132 500.

The South Western Times will provide updates throughout the day.
