All eyes return to Quit Bunbury Speedway this Saturday night for the annual running of the Dan Love Summer Cup for Street Stocks.

A big field of up to 30 cars has nominated, including last year’s winner, Paul Joss, of Collie, while Bunbury veteran Wayne Thompson will also be in the field.

With drivers from the metro area and right across the South West and Great Southern expected, it promises to be another chapter in the event’s long history.

The Dan Love Summer Cup has been sponsored by the former speedway racer for more than 20 years.

“Street stocks were a new division when I was racing and I’m pleased to see it now have the biggest number of competitors in Australia,” Love said.

“This is mainly due to the low cost of putting a race car on the track.”

Street stocks are typically Holden and Ford cars with few modifications other than a roll cage and safety gear.

They also race in both directions, which is decided by a coin toss.

Bunbury Car Club president Phil Rose said the weekend would give fans the chance to see street stock racing at its best.

“If you are a Holden or a Ford supporter, come along and cheer for your favourite,” Rose said.

“If you have never been to the speedway before, come out and see what all the fuss is about.”

Saturday night’s meeting will be the second of the Quit Bunbury Speedway season.

Last weekend, Cameron Gessner claimed a sensational win in the Wrek King Sprintcar Grand Slam ahead of Myalup’s Brad Maiolo, with Ben Ellement in third.

The support classes were also outstanding with the Cleanaway Late Model Challenge showcasing a massive field of cars.

Twenty drivers also fronted up for the annual Pro Dirt round.
