Students run for refugees’ lives in charity event
A student-driven charity event which aims to raise money for Syrian refugees is returning for a third year.
Run For Their Lives has been organised by Year 12 students throughout its short history and has relied on different people to coordinate it each year.
Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Year 12 student Eloise Pascoe was part of last year’s organising committee but has taken on more of a lead role in 2016.
“The Syrian refugee crisis is still going on and it is such a good cause that I thought ‘why stop at two events?’” she said.
“I love the cause the money is going towards and I thought people would be as interested as me if they knew about it.”
Eloise has made a deliberate effort to ensure people know about the event, promoting it through a series of talks at places including churches and schools.
She is also involved in planning for next year’s Run For Their Lives to ensure it has a long-term future.
Eloise is hoping to involve other schools which she described as “enthusiastic” about the event.
Planning an event like this “brings people together” and was also a chance to make new friends, she said.
The run is scheduled for June 19 and will be held in Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School’s grounds.
There will be 3.5km and 7km categories plus food and coffee vans, face painting, raffles aimed at both adults and children and a live performance by South West band Three Steps North.
