The specialist science school was awarded a $10,000 grant from BP after beating a number of schools from around the State.

Head of science at Newton Moore LorraineEllis said she was proud of her students for winning their fourth grant.

Mrs Ellis said the school has purchased a state-of-the-art Waste Plastic Oiling System from Japan with the money.

The equipment will allow students to remove oil from waste plastic.

‘‘Being a science specialist school, we are always on the lookout for innovative programs and equipment and things to motivate the students,’’ she said.

‘‘We try and set out program apart from what you might find in another classroom and having this piece of equipment puts us right up there.’’

The oil removed will be put to good use with students able to use it for camping, go karts, generators and other school outings.

Mrs Ellis thanked BP for the grant.
