Summer school offers plenty of fun
School may be out for students, but the Stirling Street Arts Centre’s summer school is back with classes starting next week.
With a new and improved curriculum in the school’s third year, a smorgasbord of activities is on offer over the 13-day event.
Program coordinator Sue Dennis said organisers listened to feedback from past years to build on the school’s success.
“On top of the normal day classes, there are evening classes Monday to Thursday and weekend classes – some going over the whole weekend, ” Ms Dennis said.
“You can really get your teeth into something.”
A variety of classes have been designed to suit people between the ages of five and 95 with more than 100 workshops on offer.
Most workshops run at the Stirling Street Arts Centre and cover everything from arts and crafts, technology, health and body, history and culture, music, dance and performance.
“It is a chance for participants to try something new that they might not otherwise have thought of doing or have secretly wanted to do, but have not had the courage or opportunity, ” Ms Dennis said.
Workshops have this year been broadened to include exercise classes including boot camp, “acroyoga” and stand-up paddle boarding.
Ms Dennis said students would learn from the best in the business.
“We have some amazingly talented and experienced South West artists and craftspeople on board that are prepared to share their skills in their particular field of expertise, ” she said.
“People need to book in early as one of our classes is already full and has a waiting list.”
The school runs from January 11 until January 23 and classes can be booked online or at the centre.
