SW jockey grabs double

MITCHELL WOODCOCKSouth Western Times

South West jockey Lucy Warwick had a great weekend at the Ascot Racecourse, teaming with trainer Fred Kersley to win two races on Saturday.

Warwick rode three-year-old bay gelding Lite‘n In My Veins to a second career win from just two starts in the fourth race of the day, the $60,000 Perth Racing TV Plate (1400m).

Later in the day Warwick tasted success again, riding five-year-old bay gelding Saker to victory in the $40,000 Five Saturday’s of Summer (1600m).

After coming from fifth at the turn, Warwick and Saker got across the line by a nose from the fast-finishing Night Prowler, trained by Julie Mitchell.

The pair of victories give Warwick 31 wins in the metropolitan area so far this season, while she has a season tally of 53 wins from 306 races.

Warwick told The West Australian that Lite’n In My Veins began to stargaze when he hit the front so early.

“He tried to throw me off after we passed the line so it was pretty easy for him, ” Warwick said.

“The other horse got to within half a length but my horse was under a nice and strong hold.

“He tended to switch off when he was out in front and he was in front for a long time.

“He is still green and a bit naughty.

“He did it easy.”
