Age is no barrier when it comes to success and four South West hockey players are living proof as they return to the region with gold medals.

Dean Lomax (men’s 45s), Lauren Johnston (women’s 45s), Anita Scott (women’s 40s) and Sam Rankin (women’s 45s) all won gold at the Masters Hockey World Cup in Canberra last week and played pivotal roles in their team’s success.

Lomax and his side won 3-1 in the final against England, having previously recorded wins against the Wattles, the USA, New Zealand and Wales.

Rankin and Johnston were also excellent in the women’s 45s for Australia and won a tight final against New Zealand.

Both sides could not be seperated after the official time with the score at one-all and there was a penalty shoot-out which was won by Australia.

Johnston scored in the 20th minute of the final to tie the game up, with the veteran hockey player scoring three goals for the tournament.

Scott also won her final against England, with Australia winning 4-1 in a dominant display.

All four athletes will now return to their normal sides in the South West Hockey League.
