SW spared in wild weather
A west and windy weekend greeted the South West, but the State Emergency Services was kept relatively quiet.
Only one callout was received by the SES, which was in the Eaton-Australind area and an SES spokeswoman described the weekend as “typical weather for this time of year”.
Bunbury experienced three wind gusts of 78kmh about 5.30pm on Sunday afternoon and many others above 50kmh throughout the night.
It prompted the Department of Fire and Emergency Services to release a warning about weather which “was not unusual for this time of year, but could damage homes and make travel dangerous”.
Earlier in the afternoon, the effects of heavy rain were on show at Bunbury’s Payne Park.
Several significant puddles were on the playing surface as Bunbury hosted Augusta-Margaret River in a South West Football League match.
While parts of the match were played in sunshine, the residual water made running difficult for players and only nine goals were kicked for the game.
By 12pm yesterday, Bunbury had already recorded 67.2mm of rain for the month.
This included three days with more than 13mm, highlighted by 36mm in the 24 hours to 9am Thursday.
