SW sports stars' night of nights
Some of the best young athletes in the South West will be honoured tonight at the annual South West Academy of Sport awards dinner.
To be held at the Waters Edge Restaurant, the academy will hand out nine awards with the major honour being the Sports Star of the Year.
Last year's winner was Margaret River surfer Jacob Willcox, who was also the first athlete to ever win the major award in consecutive years.
SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion said the night showcased athletes' achievements and performances.
"It is an evening where everyone in the SWAS community gets to know who the athletes are and who are excelling," she said.
"It also celebrates what you do off the sports field. It fits with our philosophy of producing good ambassadors for our brand."
Other awards to be given out on the night include individual male and female Athletes of the Year, as well as male and female athletes who play in a Team of the Year, the Emerging Star award, Community Achiever award, Wally Foreman Coach of the Year award as well as the pinnacle, the Sport Star of the Year award.
As well as the excitement of watching the prize winners being named at the red carpet event, attendees will also hear from guest speakers including Paralympian Brad Scott.
The awards night is made possible thanks to Telstra Stores South West, My Truck Wash Xpress, RCR Resources, The Apprentice and Traineeship Company, Summit Realty South West, South West Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Onsite Rental Group, and Department of Sport and Recreation (South West).
