The disappointment of a 2-0 loss to North Coast Raiders motivated the South West Strikers men to record their biggest Promotion One hockey league victory of the season on Saturday, beating Whitfords 6-0.

“My men were on a mission. They did not take kindly to their beating by North Coast,” coach Allan McGeoch said.

“My senior men had a strong say, especially at half-time after a low-grade first half and the players responded. Their input was great to have.

“The ball control combination from front to back was the best the boys have put in all season, our best show as a team.

“Should they produce that form regularly nobody will defeat us.”

The Strikers scored two goals in the first half but missed several until youngster James McGeoch, the coach’s son, dived headlong to slot a spectacular reverse stick tomahawk shot into the roof of the net to open the Strikers’ account.

The first half ended with a goal by Haig Colombera, converting a rebound after a save from Scotty Roberts.

With words of wisdom from ace goalkeeper Hamish Coates, striker Sam Pike and perennial fairest and best David O’Brien, the Strikers lifted for the second period.

The goals began to pile up with Pike putting away a Ben Stam cross followed by goals to Nayton Colombera, Jarred Booth and O’Brien.
