Leading Australian law firm Slater and Gordon will support regional sport after signing up as a major sponsor of the Plunkett Homes South West Football League for the next three years.

As part of the new deal, the company will have naming rights of the prestigious Player of the Year award, formerly backed by Bristile Roofing.

The award, which includes a $2000 cash prize, is voted on by South Western Times journalists.

Slater and Gordon’s Bunbury practice manager Jamie Blair said the firm had made a long term commitment as a sponsor and corporate partner of the SWFL, which has players and supporters from right across the region.

“The SWFL is the region’s premier football competition and we are proud to be able to support it, we just love our footy at Slaters,” he said.

“With an office in Bunbury and a commitment to service the entire region, this is a great way to support the local community.

“For 60 years now, the league has seen players from around the South West battle it out for the coveted premiership, with many top players being drafted into the WAFL and even the AFL.”

SWFL general manager John Vidos said he was pleased to welcome a new sponsor.

“The SWFL clubs and executives are delighted to have such an iconic and respected firm as Slater and Gordon to come on board as a major sponsor for the next three years,” he said.

“Slater and Gordon have made a strong commitment to a local sporting body in the region and this reflects their dedication to the local community.

“Sponsorships are a crucial part of maintaining and enabling local grassroots sporting bodies to survive so it’s gratifying to form this partnership with Slater and Gordon and to promote and develop this relationship for many years to come.”

The 2013 season starts on Saturday, April 20.
