Talented foot artist spreads her art
For an artist who has only been painting regularly for two years, Roslyn Burns has achieved a lot.
Although she has never picked up a paintbrush, Ms Burns has won awards and now has a range of greeting cards on offer.
Ms Burns, who paints with her left foot and with the aid of a mentor due to a severe disability, began prolifically producing art in 2011 when she joined the Art Partners program at Stirling Street Art Centre.
This week, packs of cards featuring her artworks hit the shops, with sets of six cards on offer.
One of the cards features flowers on a yellow background – the first painting Ms Burns produced with Art Partners.
Art Partners project officer Wanda Ariano said the dream of producing the cards was conceived in 2011 when Ms Burns first began painting.
“She’s been painting at this level since she first began, ” Ms Ariano said.
Art Partners first produced prototypes with photographic prints on cards to test the viability of the plan and then decided to get them commercially printed.
“The prototypes went well, so we thought we would take the next step, ” she said.
“The cards are fairly economical to print and can reach quite a wide section of the community.
“We’ve done a print run of 100 sets. We’ll see how that goes and how people respond to the images.”
On the back of the cards is an explanation of how Ms Burns paints with the help of her mentor Billie Griffiths and support worker Tracey Musham.
