Tender now open ahead of Stage 3 redevelopment of the $78.1 million Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project

The next step in the multimillion dollar project to re-shape Bunbury’s waterfront is set to begin as public contractors are invited to bid. The State Government opened public tender offers ahead of the upgrade to the 28-year-old boat ramp and timber jetty at Casuarina Boat Harbour. The project is set to be the first step in delivering Stage 3 of the over $78 million Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project. The proposed design will feature a modern floating jetty and two-lane ramp to support large-scale trailers and wide vessels using the harbour. The major development is set to begin during the winter period to align with the harbour’s off-peak season. Stage 3 of the TBW project is set to introduce key infrastructure to support Bunbury’s marine and harbour industry. Future developments of the TBW project will include new breakwaters at Casuarina Boat Harbour and Koombana Bay, serviced lease sites at Casuarina Boat Harbour for marine commercial activities such as boat lifting, boat servicing and boat storage. The project sets out to improve local community facilities such as toilets at Casuarina Boat Harbour boat ramp and fishing and swimming platforms at Koombana Bay. Transport Minister Rita Saffiotti said the project addressed local and industry issues with the ageing boat ramp. “Boating is a popular pastime and we want to ensure we are providing top-quality infrastructure to meet the growing demand for facilities,” she said. “Bunbury is well known for its proximity to the beautiful waterfront, and this new facility will be enjoyed for many generations to come.” Bunbury MLA Don Punch said he was glad to see one of Bunbury’s biggest marine concerns addressed during the redevelopment of the waterfront. “I have been very aware for some time of the boating community’s need for new and improved ramp facilities and I know this project will be welcomed by the Bunbury community,” he said. “It is exciting to see work on Stage 3 of the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront getting under way, as this project will completely change the way our community interacts with our marine environment.
