Tennis star up for US college award

South Western Times

South West Academy of Sport athletes continue to excel long after they have graduated.

Case in point is tennis talent Louis Asser, who is in the United States on a prestigious student-athlete scholarship with the University of Memphis.

The Bunbury-raised talent was last month announced as one of 24 recognised by the American Athletic Conference in this year’s Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Awards.

Awards are presented to individuals in each conference sport based on academy credentials, athletic accolades, performances, and volunteer service to the community.

Asser was the only recipient for tennis, and his success helped Memphis to walk away with the most number of awards of any university.

All up, Memphis achieved eight awards.

The university with the closest total number of awards was Tulsa with three.

The AAC comprises of 12 US universities.
