The Fallen at the Prince

CLARE ALLENSouth Western Times

Wednesday night will bring together four talented local acts at the PrinceofWales Hotel who will showcase their musical prowess in front of a home crowd.

Bunbury duo The Fallen, made up of singer songwriter Nick Long and multi-instrumentalist Peter Blankendaal, will make their Prince of Wales debut with a mix of originals and covers.

The pair have been playing together for about 18 months and Long said they would be covering a variety of genres and styles.

Originals consist of poignant ballads, driving rock songs, catchy pop tunes and rollicking country numbers.

They are mixed with some carefully selected covers from the likes of U2, Neil Young and Elvis Costello to provide a songlist with lots of variety and strong vocals from two singers who know how to sing in sync.

‘‘We don’t make a song to fit in a style, we play it in the style that is best for the song,’’ Long said.

‘‘The common theme is that it is all acoustic with guitars, banjo, harmonica and melodic tunes.’’

The Fallen will be joined by Mark Porter, also known as the Travellin’ Blues Man, a Queenslander currently lodged in Bunbury.

Heavily influenced by Eric Clapton’s acoustic blues, Porter said he had created his own raw sound using aslide guitar.

Also performing on the night are Brendon Norton and Johnny Westwood, otherwise known as The Fallen Poets, who have created their own blend of acoustic folk and blues.

Norton provides the guitar, vocals and song writing for the duo, while multi-instrumentalist Westwood plays harmonica, saxophone, melodeon and didgeridoo.

Last but not least, Bunbury man Lightning Jack is sure to be a crowd pleaser, hitting the stage with some rousing blues and rock.

The Fallen, The Travellin’ Blues Man, The Fallen Poets and Lightning Jack will be playing at the Prince of Wales Hotel on Wednesday, June 15 from 8pm.
