The tale of Dardanup's 3 little pigs (plus 1)

Aaron Corlett, SOUTH WESTERN TIMESSouth Western Times

Three little pigs and their friend are looking for a new home after a bizarre set of circumstances has led the Dardanup Shire Council to put them under the hammer.

An auction will be held at the council’s Dardanup office on Wednesday at 2pm for three young white female pigs and a young black male pig.

Dardanup shire senior ranger Murray Halden said the pigs were impounded after they were found wandering without identification outside of Dardanup.

“We put notices out to find the owner but we haven’t been able to locate him or her,” he said.

“The pigs will be auctioned off but the bidders need to be registered as a livestock owner with the Department of Agriculture and Food.”

Mr Halden said it was the first time in his three years working for the Dardanup Shire Council that an auction for livestock was required.

“I’m not sure if there will be one person or 100 people there because it is new ground for myself,” he said.

“The successful bidders will need to bring their truck or trailer to transport the pigs away and we are expecting a bit of squealing when that happens.”
