A metropolitan class race meeting will be run today at Bunbury Turf Club, starting at 1pm.

Bunbury Turf Club chief executive officer Alex Doble was philosophical about the cancellation of Saturday’s meet which was called off because of wet weather.

“We worked really hard to get to the Saturday and it was time to showcase Bunbury,” he said.

“But it is probably the best collection of horses for a couple of months and it is good they are backing up on the Wednesday.

“They are part way through their preparation and some are first up.”

Doble said he still expected a decent crowd today.

“It is meant to be a perfect day weather-wise,” he said.

“The crowd would have been a challenge on Saturday just with the inclement weather.

“But in saying that, the biggest difference from Saturday to Wednesday will be the turnover off course.

“Your traditionalist punters who save their money up for a Saturday bet have probably spent their money now.

“But it is great to see we have had such strong support from the participants with the horses still lining up.”

The feature race will be the $100,000 TAB-Touch Bunbury 3YO Classic (1000m) which will go from 5pm.
