Times photographers shine
Two South Western Times photographers’ skills have been acknowledged with awards in a ceremony celebrating the best in their field.
Senior photographer David Bailey was runner-up in the West Australian Press Photographers regional press photographer of the year, while part-time photographer Richard Hathaway finished third in the best sport photograph category.
Mr Bailey was awarded second place on the merit of four photos he had published in the Times.
“I’m honoured to have been chosen,” he said.
“It’s good that you get recognition by your peers from time to time.”
Mr Bailey said the award helped to make him feel energised and focused.
“It motivates you when you see your photos on exhibit,” he said.
Mr Hathaway said he was proud to be acknowledged with an award when he had only been taking photos for 18 months after an eight-year hiatus.
“I might not have won but the achievement and recognition from the other photographers is much appreciated and a huge buzz,” he said.
“To have had the opportunity to finally put my photos up with industry photographers — some whose pictures I’ve admired since I first picked up a camera — is reward itself.”
The awards night was held on Friday at the State Library in Perth.
