Top street artists leave D Ranged mark

South Western Times

International street artists Sheryo and the Yok visited Bunbury on September 21 to paint one of their distinctive pieces on a shop wall.

Arriving early in the morning, the pair used aerosol cans and a ladder to bring life to the piece, born from pure imagination.

“I’m not sure where we got the idea from,” Yok said.

“Sheryo and I drew it up last night over a couple of beers.”

Sheryo, from Singapore, and Yok, originally a Perth lad, are based in Brooklyn, but exhibit and work all over the world, including New York City, Hanoi and Berlin.

Both have studied graphic design, but said their street style had come about organically.

“I used to hang out with the AM crew in Perth, and learnt a lot about street art and using spray cans with them,” he said.

“It can be very difficult, controlling paint spraying out of a can.”

Sheryo and the Yok worked quickly to complete the piece, before heading south to Bridgetown and Albany, where they painted some more.

Yok said although his schedule was quite busy, he still enjoyed returning home to Western Australia to check out other artists and drive around looking for places to paint.

“I just like coming back to Perth and seeing new stuff around,” Yok said.

“Especially the next generation of artists who are painting now.

“There are some great artists coming up.”

You can see their design on the outside wall at D Ranged SHOP, on the corner of Arthur and Stirling streets in Bunbury’s CBD.
