Trela heads to England to take on world
As the one-day Australian Cricket Team returned from South Africa, another set of representatives departed Melbourne bound for England.
In the mix of it is Bunbury’s John Trela, who will play in the green and gold for the over 50s team in the Indoor Cricket Masters World Series.
Trela and the various teams flew out on Friday and have participated in practice matches ahead of tomorrow’s opening rounds.
The former Marist champion seamer is representing Australia for the second time, having played in the successful over 40s division in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2013.
Trela said they would play in nine group stage matches, before competing in a semi-final and grand final if they were successful.
“I am reasonably confident,” he said. “Australia is reasonably poised in the indoor arena.
“There is going to be strong competition in South Africa, England and New Zealand as well.”
Trela said he was feeling good ahead of the tournament.
“We have trained in Perth as a collective group,” he said.
Trela said he did still get nervous when putting on the green and gold colours.
“You would be non-human if you didn’t get any nerves,” he said.
