A virtual installation starring members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra is set to strike a chord with audiences at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries.

ACO Virtual was created by Sydney digital media artist Michela Ledwidge from Mod Productions and the installation opened at the galleries on Friday and runs until January 17.

Vision of the musicians is projected onto several screens around the audience with the sound of the musicians coming from each screen.

A touch-screen allows users to highlight and listen to one musician, a section of instruments, or their desired selection of players.

Bunbury Regional Art Galleries education officer Claire Pendrigh said the installation was unique and would be interesting for audiences because it was a cinematic experience.

"I'm not sure if we've ever had an installation like this before so it's very exciting," she said.

"What makes it interesting is that it has different layers and it is an immersive experience because once you go into the room you are surrounded by images and music."

Ms Pendrigh said the touch-screen would allow audiences to engage with the installation in a unique way.
