Visions of young artists at BRAG

Inspiring artwork from the South West’s most promising art students will be on display from this weekend as part of the annual Iluka Visions exhibition at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries.

Just 150 pieces of art — including sculpture, painting, audio visual projects and photography — were chosen from more than 650 entries from 17 schools across the region.

Bunbury Catholic College student Veronica Lette had two pieces selected for the exhibition— her painting Brain Storm and the sculpture, My Heart Your Hand — and she said her work was a reflection of her feelings at thetime.

‘‘When we started doing the painting, I had just started Year 12 so I was questioning myself a lot and I was stressed and worried,’’ she said.

‘‘I was just thinking about what I wanted to do and why I wanted to do it.

‘‘So I just put all of my worries and doubts into my painting.’’

Veronica said she had been telling everyone she knows to go and see her work in the exhibition.

‘‘I am very excited because I’ve been doing art for four out of five years at school and this is the first time I’ve gotten into it and I got both my artworks in,’’ she said.

BRAG audience development officer Julie Blair said the students involved had achieved an amazing accomplishment.

‘‘I’d like to see the people show their support by viewing this exhibition of our future artists and generations,’’ she said.

Iluka Visions is on show from October 6 until November 25.

The gallery is open from 10am to 4pm daily and entry is free.
