There will be plenty of family fun when Philharmonic South West perform the popular Family Proms concert at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre later this month.

The orchestra will play a solo performance on June 18, after performing with other bands in previous years.

This year’s concert is called Pictures at an Exhibition.

The concert is based on the BBC Proms, which is a series of orchestral classical music concerts held annually at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Philharmonic South West orchestra concert master Sabine Pfuhl said she was aiming to get families to attend the concert.

“We want children to attend and the prices are quite reasonable,” she said.

“It’s a 100-minute concert and we will be selling lolly bags during the interval.”

Pfuhl said the concert, which was named after Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky’s most famous pieces, would include the projection of a number of images.

“The pictures will be projected behind the band and will suit the music,” she said.

“We will explain the connections with the audience and engage with them – that’s an important part of the show.

“Hopefully the slideshow will be interesting to look at for the audience and they’ll agree it will fit the music.”

Pfuhl said the engagement of young members of the audience was an important part of the show.

She said the images would play an integral role alongside the music.

“We will play popular classics, from people such as Haydn and Mozart, they will be pieces people recognise from my film and television,” Pfuhl said.
