The State’s greyhound racing industry could face an inquiry if it doesn’t stay “squeaky clean”, according to Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray.

“It is up to the industry in Western Australia to show they are clean because any misdemeanours will come under inquiry in WA,” Mr Murray said.

Bunbury veteran greyhound owner John Atkinson said the industry was “well-policed in WA” and the biggest concern was the number of dogs being put down.

Racing and Gaming Minister Colin Holt said the industry needed to be “at world’s best practice” and WA had learned some lessons from NSW.

“There possibly could be some impacts to the industry, as a lot of greyhound breeders in NSW send their dogs to WA and we need to look at how greyhounds have a longer racing life,” he said.
