Hay Park fast bowler Chris Waddingham has continued his red hot form this season, taking six wickets in the reigning premiers’ upset 76-run victory over Eaton at Hay Park on Saturday.

Beavers skipper Clint Hewson won the toss and asked the Redbacks to bat first.

The Redbacks looked well on their way, scoring 104 for the loss of their first three wickets thanks to excellent batting performances by youngsters Graham Yates (34 runs) and Michael Tassone (23) together with English import David Taylor (45).

This had the Redbacks looking as if they would put on a very competitive total.

But then came the first of the two collapses in this entertaining game with Beavers skipper Hewson taking the ball at the first change and changing the course of the game with a sizzling seven overs, which had him grab 5-19, causing a collapse which had six wickets lost for just 58 runs.

Waddingham hit two boundaries and two big sixes in a 25-run knock to give Eaton a target of 163 for victory.

Shock waves went through the Eaton camp as prolific openers Dan Seaman and James Hillery as well as former WA Country XI opener Matt Foreman fell cheaply to Redbacks captain Jono Whitney and opening bowling partner Ben Hare.

At that stage Hay Park coach Waddingham was handed the ball and it was carnage for Eaton as the big left-hander struck in the 13th over and almost every over after that.

Wicketkeeper Ash Sbizzirri held on to four catches to help mow down the Beavers for 86 runs in just 26 overs and a double bonus point victory.

English wicketkeeper Matt Davies was the highest scorer for the visitors with 19, while Hewson failed to trouble the scorers as Eaton suffered their first loss for the 2016-17 Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association season.
