Competitors are being called to step into the ring for a good cause later this year, with Denning Boxing Gym to host its second charity fight night.

With all profits going to Camp Quality, 24 fighters will train for eight weeks to compete at a fight night on Saturday, July 9 at the South West Italian Club.

Trainer Peter Stokes is asking for local celebrities or pairs with a fun rivalry to put the gloves on for the fights.

"I need a few more people who are looking to jump in the ring," he said.

"They will do an eight-week intense training camp where they will work on the structure of boxing as well as the offensive and defensive skills.

"There will be some good fights - there was last time."

Stokes said he always had a number of people in the community saying they wanted to fight and now they had a chance.

"I think I have been pestered by about 2000 people in the last 10 years telling me they want to fight and now is their chance," he said.

Darren Kenny, who has a team in Camp Quality's annual wesCarpade car run, said the money from the fight night would help children with cancer under the age of 13.

"This year they are trying to broaden their network," he said.

"They are trying to extend their cover to families who have older siblings who may be suffering from cancer as well.

"They are trying to give them a day out so they can see the lighter side of life."
