Myalup jockey Lucy Warwick has revealed she is looking to make a comeback to competitive racing, more than two months since taking an indefinite spell from the saddle.

The 19-year-old told theSouth Western Times that she had enjoyed her time away and was looking to race again in the New Year, with February her target.

“I will be making a slow comeback,” she said.

“By the way I feel it looks like it will be a while.”

Warwick trialled in Bunbury on Tuesday, riding two horses, Sassonova and Rammasun, trained by her father Justin Warwick.

The 2015-16 RWWA Best All Around Apprentice said the stress of racing had caused her weight to fluctuate before she took her break.

“Horses need a spell, so why can’t jockeys have one?” she said.

“I was really stressed out and my weight was just jumping.

“In this break my weight has come down, so it was obviously what I needed.

“I just relaxed and had a good spell.

“I am definitely looking forward to racing. I am ready to win again.”

Warwick won the $120,000 TABTouch Pinjarra Cup (2300m) in April and the $120,000 XXXX Gold Albany Cup (2100m) in March on board the Lindsey Smith-trained gelding Zarantz before riding for the last time on September 17 at Lark Hill.
