Brayshaw century lifts Bridgetown
Bridgetown continued its unbeaten streak on Sunday with a 96-run win over Dingup – their first away visit to Collier Street this WBCA season.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first but got off to a stuttering start as openers Ben McAlinden (3) and Darren Tassos (2) got done in early to put the score at 2-9.
Rob Brayshaw (115) steadied the Bridgetown ship with his century, 16 fours and partnerships with Mitch Clothier (17) and Kim Gardiner (44).
Brayshaw rode his luck throughout his innings and scored freely with some loose bowling from the Dingup bowlers.
He outlasted Clothier and Gardiner before he was caught out, putting the score sat at 5-200.
The rest of Bridgetown’s batting order held out for the full 45 overs, putting the side’s score at a sizeable 7/253.
The pick of the bowlers was Joe Fontanini, who took three wickets.
The Dingup chase started slowly as they lost early wickets and at 4/30 looked in deep trouble, thanks mainly to Clothier’s 3-19 off his nine overs.
The steadying partnership between John Starkie (35) and Alex Darin (38) added some respectability to the total.
However when Shane Glancy (2-14) removed both Starkie and Darin, Dingup's day was done and dusted as the tail collapsed and left the home side all out for 157 off 37 overs.
Manjimup notch up big win
Manjimup continued its run of good form with a convincing 61-run victory over Pemberton in their Warren Blackwood Cricket Association game at Collier Street on Saturday.
With both teams missing key players, sweltering conditions and a batsman’s pitch, the day was marked by a series of long batting partnerships.
Manjimup won the toss and sent Pemberton into bat and they set to work with a steady start from David Meehan (47) and Anthony Wozencroft (1) putting the team at 1-31.
Pemberton stalwarts David Meehan and Peter Bamess (82 not out) added 86 runs for the third wicket before Meehan fell lbw to the swing of Andrew Shuard.
With Dave Carroll retiring hurt on eight, Bamess steered Pemberton to a respectable and defendable 7-177 after 45 overs despite batting partners being restricted in scoring by the swing and spin bowling attack of Manjimup.
Manjimup captain Jono Miller did the bulk of the damage, finishing with 3-30 off nine overs, with Shuard 1-20 off nine overs, Rhett Holwill 1-29 off six overs and youngster Anthony Femia, 1-4 off one over.
The home side’s run chase started slowly with the bowling of Bamess and Brendan Peet restricting Manjimup to just eight runs from the first 10 overs.
Bamess contributed an outstanding all-round effort, bowling five maidens in nine overs.
After the mature and patient opening partnership between Jozef Parkinson (22) and Will Masters (8), Dane Raper (16) entered and lifted the run rate, putting together a quick-fire 42-run partnership with Parkinson for the third wicket.
This set the tone for the rest of the innings with Holwill (13) and Shuard (20) both taking advantage of Pemberton’s young bowling attack to score quickly.
With the score at 5-117, brothers Ronan (82 not out ) and Evan (53 not out ) Phillips Johns pieced together an outstanding unbeaten 121-run partnership to drive Manjimup to victory and take the score to 5-238 after 45 overs.
Pemberton’s bowling attack was headlined by Bamess, 0-10 off nine overs, Peet 3-18 off nine overs and strong efforts from Daniel Moynihan 1-38 off four overs and Chris King 1-24 off six overs.
This weekend Pemberton will host Northcliffe while Manjimup face Dingup at Collier Street.
