Tornadoes Black progressed to the 2015-16 Dale Alcock Homes Bunbury Basketball Association A-Grade grand final with a 59-55 win over Bulls Maroon on Friday.
The two teams finished the season with identical 15-6 win/loss records and, as expected, the game was close with the margin never exceeding five points.
Tim Collins was the star for Black with a game-high 25 points, while Jason Smith added 17 and Carey Watkins scored nine.
Daniel Quick hit four three-pointers in the first half to top score for Maroon with 17 points, with Trent Worthington (14 points) and Paddy Phillips (11 points).
Maroon will take on Aces Navy on Friday to decide who challenges Black for the title after Navy knocked Busselton out of the finals with a 80-75 win. The game was also close throughout with a six-point margin in the opening minutes the biggest lead of the match.
Navy was led by Jeremy Paull (30 points) and Luke Deighton (27 points), while Wade Hitchcock added 11 points. Busselton’s Cameron Bell scored 18 points.
Aces White advanced to the women’s grand final with a massive 78-50 win over Bulls, with White’s Tiahna Sears scoring a game-high 23 points.
Shelby Davidson and Georgia Denehey added 16 points each for White, while Rebecca Preston (15 points) and Brittany Gliddon (12 points) were the best for Bulls.
Bulls will play against Tornadoes on Friday night to qualify for the grand final after Tornadoes ended Aces Blue’s season with a 76-73 win. Tornadoes guard Ebony Bilcich nailed six three pointers on her way to 21 points, while her team mate Dena English nailed five three-pointers to score 19 points for the game.
Blue were led by Kate Fielding’s 25 points, while recently announced WA under-20 State team representative Raya Thompson added 20 points.
