Wet Bunbury Cup Destroy-ed

RILEY STUARTSouth Western Times

Jeff Noske-trained gelding Destroy rewarded astute punters yesterday when he claimed a soggy $110,000 XXXX Gold Bunbury Cup (2200m).

Destroy had been one of the big movers on Tote in the lead-up to the staying feature. He began as a $26 chance when Player markets opened on Tuesday but shortened to be $13 on Wednesday and was backed in to $9 before they jumped.

Noske's son Jarrad steered the four-year-old, who began from gate five, to the 3/4 length triumph after turning seventh.

The track was rated a dead5 after persistent rain throughout the day.

Reprisal, prepared by Lou and Dion Luciani, was second while Grant Williams-trained runners Dreamaway and Moonlight Bay were third and fourth respectively.

Race favourite Miss Tipsy Topsy was a disappointing 10th of 13.
