Who will be SWAS Sports Star of the Year?
Excitement is building as the South West Academy of Sport prepares to name its highest achievers in a glittering awards ceremony at Busselton tonight.
SWAS will announce its top sportsmen and women for the year when it rolls out the red carpet for its fifth annual dinner and awards night with retired international netball player Susan Fuhrmann as a guest speaker.
SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion said medallions would be presented to the academy’s most outstanding athletes, as well as members of the wider community who had demonstrated a commitment to achieving excellence in sport.
“Our athletes, along with coaches and sports administrators, have worked hard all year to attain amazing results on the sports field and this is our opportunity to shine the spotlight on their achievements,” she said.
“We will be presenting a number of awards on the night, including the highly-coveted Sports Star of the Year award.
“The inaugural recipient of the award was Lauren Reynolds, who went on to represent Australia at the London Olympic Games.”
Other awards will include the Emerging Star award, Wally Foreman Award and Telstra Dedication to Task Award.
The night is sponsored by Telstra Country Wide, WA Football Commission, Coates Hire, Nara Training, RCR Resources, the Department of Sport and Recreation, the South West Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with support from the South West Development Commission.
