An Australian music legend has lent his voice to support the South West's marine sanctuaries on his way through the region.

Renowned singer John Williamson stopped by Dolphin Discovery Centre on Tuesday to meet general manager David Kerr and discuss his love for nature.

"All of my songs are about how our nature forms the characters that live in it," he said.

"I never hesitate to support anything to do with our native habitat - it is our greatest heritage."

Mr Williamson's visit coincides with a group of South West businesses calling on the Federal Government to protect the region as a review of Australia's marine reserves is undertaken.

Save Our Marine Life South West community campaigner Tara Finch said a business statement on the organisation's website highlighted the importance of marine life to the South West's businesses and economy.

Ms Finch said the aim of the business statement was to emphasise the benefits of protecting marine life in the South West and to urge the Federal Government not to decrease the size of any protected areas.

Mr Kerr said until the review released proposals, they would not know what they were dealing with but it was but it was important to protect the region.

Forrest MHR Nola Marino said the government was determined to ensuring "a science-based review of Commonwealth marine reserves and zoning boundaries, while maintaining our strong commitment to the marine reserves and their estates".
