Just six weeks after a nightmare mid-air collision ended Lauren Reynolds’ 2013 campaign, the South West Olympian is already back on her bike.

Reynolds tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee at a US competition in October, forcing the BMX superstar to return to Australia for reconstructive surgery.

“I’ve been swimming for over two weeks now and I’ve also been doing some RPM classes on the stationary bike and slowly getting back into the swing of things,” she said.

“The knee feels great and I could be out on the road cycling — but at the moment it is not worth risking it because if I crashed or came off suddenly there is still a chance of tearing the ACL all over again.”

While her recovery remains ahead of schedule, Reynolds is determined not to rush back onto the track, setting her sights on Round 1 of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Manchester, England, in April as her likely return to the competitive circuit.

Reynolds said she missed training at an elite level but was enjoying the time off, which represented by far her longest stint at home in years.

“I’ve started doing a little bit of coaching with some younger kids while I’ve got some spare time, which I love,” she said.

“I enjoy watching them and helping where I can, but it also makes me so jealous because I wish I was riding."

Reynolds’ fans have an opportunity to own a piece of BMX history this month with the Olympian, in conjunction with Stingaz Eaton, giving away a signed and framed jersey as well as $250 worth of Loosekid Industries products and a $200 Stingaz voucher.

“The jersey I’m giving away is actually the one I was wearing when I crashed and did my knee in California,” she said.

“I’ve signed it but I haven’t washed it and it’s pretty obvious it’s been through the trenches.”
