WIN! Tickets to the IBF Pan Pacific title

South Western Times

An international boxing title belt will be on the line in Bunbury later this month for the first time in history.

WA-based South African cruiserweight Pieter Cronje will defend his IBF Pan Pacific strap against Sydney’s Mosese Sorovi at the Eaton Recreation Centre on Saturday, April 28.

The bout will be the main event as part of a pro-am card being presented by Bunbury coach Pete Stokes, from Denning Boxing Gym.

Another highlight of the show will be the professional super-featherweight bout between West Australian Matt Garlett and Eastern States sensation Jon Song Kim.

Stokes said tickets had been selling fast for the event.

‘‘It’s great to be able to bring this to Bunbury, getting pros down here with the top amateurs will make for a great show,’’ he said.

‘‘Getting big fights and names down here is hopefully just the start for us.

‘‘Pieter sets a good example. He’s a hard hitter, but he’s also exciting and fast for his weight division.’’

After a nine-month absence from the ring, Cronje told the South Western Times he was ready to put on a show in Bunbury.

‘‘I just want to get back in there,’’ he said.

‘‘I honestly believe that you can’t be called the champion unless you defend your belt successfully.

‘‘I won it 12 months ago, but have not had a chance to defend it yet so I’m stoked, especially to be doing it at home.’’

Tickets can be purchased from the Eaton Recreation Centre, the Prince of Wales Hotel or by calling 0406 020 756.
