Winter donations needed

MITCHELL WOODCOCKSouth Western Times

Coles Centrepoint is helping the less fortunate keep warm this winter by asking shoppers to donate rugs and jumpers for a good cause.

Organised by the store’s community group, the Circle Team, the collection point is in front of Coles Centrepoint and will run for the entire month of June.

With the first day of winter on Sunday and May this year being the wettest for some time, it appears this year donations of warm items are a necessity.

Coles Centrepoint Circle Team leader Kylie Sharpe said the jumpers and blankets would be handed out to people who need them in the community, such as those at the men’s refuge and the Intown Centre.

“The Circle Team likes to get involved in the community and this month we are asking for the public to come to Coles Centrepoint and donate jumpers and blankets so we can hand them out to the people who need them in the community, ” she said.

“We are fairly community orientated and care about the people where we live.

“People come in and shop at Coles so we want to give something back.”

Intown Centre board chairman David Bailey said it was wonderful Coles was helping out during what is the most difficult time of year for some people.

“Being the start of winter, clientele is up and we need support such as blankets and clothes, ” he said.

“I think the community in Bunbury recognises this because, they give all the time. It can only be in the best interests of the bigger corporations to be a part of the community and we are happy to take any help we can get.

“Winter sees the beginning of our annual blanket appeal and we are happy to have a relationship with Coles.”
