Winter treat at performers' showcase

South Western Times

A big line-up of entertainers is playing at Bunbury Performers Club Winter Showcase this Sunday afternoon in Bunbury.

In addition to two guest musicians from Albany, a local quartet, trio, duo and solo will sing and play a variety of instruments.

Bunbury Performers Club has organised the concert to showcase some of its top artists, as well as enjoy the superb music of Craig Sinclair and Jude Iddison.

These guests are from the south coast of WA, and combine a tasty mix of contemporary folk-blues songs and Celtic-gypsy inspired tunes, using a mix of finger style and flat pick guitar, ukelele, violin and vocal harmonies.

They have performed at festivals around Australia, including Fairbridge and Denmark. Club coordinator Linda Blyth said the range of musical genres, styles, instruments and skills was a rare treat for music lovers.

‘‘Three hours of inspiring music, originals and covers, with vocals and many instruments, is an offer not to be missed,’’ Blyth said.

‘‘There’s enjoyment in the concert for everyone, with nearly three hours of fantastic music, as well as a chance to chat with the performers over refreshments, for a very lowcost entry fee.

‘‘Craig and Jude are just such inspiring singer-songwriters and they have an amazing synergy.’’

Local performers are:

Simple Things: Andrew Robinson, John Ferraro, Matt Brookes and Gary Denford. A combination of the sweet, the sad, the slow, the fast, the funny, the complicated and the simple things in life —not all free but maybe all that we need! Playing guitar, ukulele, Irish drums and more.

Ruby Blue: Flora Toft, Bec Hall and Gina Newport combine cello, guitar, percussion and strong, bluesy vocals, featuring their own songs and some of others. One of the precision acts of the club, they are a tight and compelling trio, filling the room with fabulous feeling.

Nick Long: Powerful, melodic music with driving rhythms, beautiful melodies and catchy lyrics. Hear ballads, powerful rock songs, infectious pop tunes and even rollicking country numbers — all performed with his unique, powerful voice and guitar. Touching originals and covers from some of the greats.

World Rhythms: Rosamel Burgos and Joydie Farley, playing traditional South American music, original compositions and covers. Joydie sings and plays drums, other percussion and guitar. Rosamel plays bamboo flutes and pan flutes, guitar, charango, and percussion.

The Winter Showcase is 4pm-7pm on Sunday at the Stirling Street Arts Centre (corner Charles Street), East Bunbury.

Tickets are available at the door. More details are on the club website: www.bunburyperformersclub.org.
