Women's Hockey: All Blacks in whitewash win

GEORGE GOODWINSouth Western Times

Two goals by Marissa Littlewood and singles to Allyce Bachos, Jenna Gmeiner and Kellie Grant in a 5-0 whitewash of former champions Countrys kept Boyanup women steaming full speed ahead at the front of the South West Hockey League pack at the weekend.

The undefeated All Blacks are being kept honest by a Busselton Robins resurgence, edging out last week's leaders Marist 3-2.

And with Associates double header giving them a draw and a win, the next two top four places are occupied by the Blues and Associates.

Big wins were the order of the weekend with current champions Collie, continuing their climb back to respectability after a slow start to crush Wests 8-1 in Collie and Associates defeated Exies 4-0.

Another big payday appears to be looming for the rampant All Blacks when they visit the Busselton Hockey Stadium for a date with Wests at 3pm on Saturday while Marist and Associates should break their 11-point deadlock at 1.45pm on Sunday.

Five points ahead of Associates and Marist on the ladder, Robins on a bye, will stay second while the high scoring premiers should fill their boots on their home turf in Collie at the expense of Exies and Collie.

About to break their duck are Countrys or Town/South who meet at 3.15pm in Bunbury on Saturday, both without a win with Countrys carrying two losses and three draws and Town/South with a six-game blank.
