Construction of a roundabout on one of Bunbury’s busiest roads is due to start on Monday and the Bunbury City Council is warning motorists the work will delay traffic.

The roundabout at the intersection of Vittoria and Jeffrey roads in Glen Iris near Grace Christian School is due to be finished by June 24.

Half of Vittoria Road will be closed during construction and road users are being urged to pay attention to changed road conditions and speed limits.

Mayor Gary Brennan said it was important the council upgraded the road network, especially before roads were put under pressure from increased traffic.

“Vittoria Road is an integral part of our road network as it carries traffic to and from Glen Iris, local schools and also the Bunbury Farmers Market,” he said.

“The pending residential development of Moorlands South will add further traffic onto the road.

“It is also an important link road between Forrest Highway and South Western Highway and we need to ensure it is at a standard that provides safe and hassle-free motoring.”

Traffic management will be in place at the work site and the council has provided these tips:

Access * to the Grace Christian School “kiss and drop” on Jeffrey Road will be available via Vittoria Road.

Riverlea * residents will have access onto Vittoria Road via the worksite.

Access * to Riverlands Road from the Forrest Highway will not be available due to traffic safety reasons.

Through * traffic on Vittoria Road will be permitted past the work site via a single lane with stop/go traffic management.

The west bound * lane of the east side of Jeffrey Road will be closed to traffic and detours will be in place via Woodley Road and Alyxia Drive.
