A group performance for their parents was the culmination of a musical workshop featuring more than 200 South West students on Monday.

The Beginning Band Workshop was hosted by Bunbury Senior High School and organised through the Education Department’s instrumental music school services program.

It included 226 young musicians from 10 different schools, mostly percussionists, between Years 5 and 7.

Workshop South West coordinator Wendy Armstrong said the day was intended to be fun as well as educational.

“It is aimed primarily at students who started learning an instrument this year or last year,” Mrs Armstrong said.

“We were working on four pieces to get them used to being in a band situation and working with other like-minded students from across the region.

“It is great that Bunbury Senior High School was able to accommodate us and we hope students will aspire to going on with performance in music.”

The workshop is held annually and hosting rotates between schools.

Voix Quintet, a band made up of University of Western Australia students, travelled to Bunbury and performed with the students on Monday.
