The Yarloop Post Office is calling for its temporary post office box holders to claim their mail before the end of this month.

Fire-affected residents were issued free boxes after January’s blaze because Australia Post was unable to deliver mail to residential addresses in the township.

The free service was available until the end of June, but many holders have chosen to keep their boxes permanently.

Yarloop Post Office licensee Ron Sackville said temporary box holders who had not decided to continue the service needed to collect their mail before July 31.

He said if the post office could hold mail for only one month and if it was not collected before the end of July, it would be returned to sender.

“There are a few people we haven’t heard from and we are still holding mail for them,” Mr Sackville said.

“Some of the mail we are holding could be very important letters that people are waiting for following the disaster.

“To the remaining free issued post box holders in Yarloop, we wish to advise that the mail held in your post box has to be returned to the sender at the end of July if it’s not collected.”

Mr Sackville encouraged anyone who knew a Yarloop temporary box holder to remind them to collect their mail.

Mail can be collected from 9am to 12pm from Monday to Saturday and until 5pm on Thursday.
