International Day of Yoga is an opportunity to join forces globally to celebrate the spiritual and physical benefits of the ancient practice.

The South West Indian Group invites community members to attend a one-hour free event tomorrow from 5pm to 6pm at the South West Italian Club.

South West Indian Group president Parthasarathy Ramesh said he wanted to bring a global event to Bunbury and saw this as the perfect opportunity.

“We are about bridging the gap between the two cultures and yoga is a practice to overcome all kinds of sufferings,” he said.

“This is the start of more events to celebrate Indian culture in Bunbury and we encourage everyone to give it a try.”

Yoga instructor Rosemary Harding said there were many benefits to yoga which could transform the mind and body.

Kerry Vervijeren from Yoga Life Studio Bunbury will help run the session, which is open to all abilities.

Bunbury MLA John Castrilli said yoga brought together people of different cultures, faiths and nationalities.

“Events like this provide a way for people to connect over a common interest while at the same time learning more about each other, embracing diversity and valuing our differences as well as our similarities,” he said.

“Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this to Bunbury and I hope it will be a very successful celebration.”
