Young flying instructor say sky's no limit

South Western Times

A passion to fly high drove 19-year-old Daniel Temple to get his flying instructor’s ticket this year.

As the first and only graduate of the Bunbury Flying School’s instructor course, Mr Temple dreams of becoming an international commercial airline pilot.

With 300 hours of flying under his belt, Mr Temple believes the instructing experience will give him the skills necessary to pursue his dream.

He first decided he wanted to be a pilot after travelling on planes as a child.

When he graduated from Bunbury Catholic College he sought flying lessons and was amazed by his first experience behind the controls of a Cessna 152.

“It was a pretty cool feeling to be above everything else,” he said.

“I like the sense of freedom and not being restricted.”

Mr Temple has been teaching for a month and said he could already see potential in some of his students and hoped they would take up instructing as well.

“I’m happy to stay here and teach for a few years,” he said.

“It forces me to stay switched on and up-to-date with regulations, but it is a great consolidation of my skills.

“I’m hoping it will help to get my foot into the commercial industry.”

Mr Temple has a single engine licence and plans to embark on multi-engine training soon, on his way to the commercial scene.
