Youth create a vision splendid

South Western Times

The region’s biggest annual showcase of high school students’ artworks — Ilkua Visions — will be whittled down from 650 submissions to about 150 for exhibition.

Iluka Visions puts on show work by students in Years 8 to 12 from 15 South West schools and includes photographs, paintings, drawings, etchings, sculptures, woodcarving and mixed media projects.

The annual exhibition is supported by Iluka Resources which provides development of the professional catalogue and the notable Iluka Prize.

Chosen works will be professionally framed by Country Framers and exhibited at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries.

Iluka Visions offers a unique opportunity for students to not only include in their resume, but also receive an insight into the world of the arts industry.

The Iluka Prize is a week-long internship at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts in Perth. The recipient of Nina’s Prize will take part in a week-long internship at Nina’s Jewellery in Dunsborough.

‘‘Exhibiting is an important part of the creative process,’’ Galleries audience development officer Julie Blair said.

‘‘Iluka Visions allows students from all over the region the opportunity to experience exhibiting their work in a professional setting.’’

The Iluka Visions exhibition was created in 1991 by the Galleries to nurture the upcoming artists of the South West by way of professional development opportunities.

The exhibition will be open for public viewing from October 6.
