Writers of all styles and experience levels will have the chance to step up to the microphone on November 30, when the recently formed Bunbury Writers group hosts its Open Floor at Caf-fez.

Founder Ben Mason said the creation of the group stemmed from a complaint.

“It started with a complaint I made to a friend that there were no writers groups in Bunbury for me to join,” he said.

“So he bounced back ‘why don’t you start one?’ and I didn’t really have an answer for him.”

After deciding to give it a go, word soon spread and the group now meets at the cafe once a fortnight.

“A lot of our members who all love writing have said they have never written so much,” he said.

“I think that is borne out of having a commitment — you feel responsible to get something ready and have a piece to share with the group.

“It is nice to hear what other people in your area are doing and share what you are doing with others.”

Mr Mason said the Open Floor was “totally inclusive”, with first-timers to seasoned professionals all welcome.

“The only thing is you are performing for an audience, so just remember you have to entertain the audience.”

Entry is free, with registrations opening at 6pm. Supper and drinks will be available.
