Newly formed animal rescue group, Bunbury Animal Rescue Rehome Care had their first litter of border collie-kelpie puppies born in care nearly eight weeks ago.

BARRC president Patricia Perks said they had 55 intakes for rehoming since the business began in March.

“We intended to start off slow and small but the demand has been huge, so there is definitely the need for another home in the South West generally,” Ms Perks said. “We work with a lot of the other rescue homes and we really found their was a need for another shelter.”

Ms Perks said her team at BARRC have 20 years experience between them and work hard to make sure each animal goes to the best home possible.

“We work all together to aim to get the most appropriate home for the animals and often the animal aren’t in care because of anything they have done, generally it’s just a change of situation which could be an illness, family or something like that,” she said.

“We get some beautiful dogs coming in and it’s so exciting to have our first litter born in care.”

Ms Perks said she understands how painful it must be for people forced to give up their pet when they are left with no other choice.

“All our dogs are placed in suitable foster homes until the perfect home is found,” she said.

All nine puppies from the new litter have been adopted and are now old enough to be sent out to their new homes.

Ms Perks said BARRC is run solely on a volunteer basis and all donations are greatly appreciated to help save the animals’ lives.

“BARRC are calling on volunteers to foster dogs and for dog walkers and we are also on the hunt for someone to assist with admin and marketing,” Ms Perks said.
