As the Big Bash League 12 approaches the finals, the competition’s South West stars have continued to make an impact.

Dunsborough’s Lance Morris and Bunbury’s Sam Whiteman both featured for the Perth Scorchers and the Sydney Thunder in the past week of Big Bash League match-ups.

After being rested in the Scorchers’ eight wicket win over Brisbane Heat last Wednesday, the ‘Wild Thing’ was unleashed in the Scorchers’ nine wicket win over Sydney Thunder at Sydney Showground Stadium on Friday.

It did not take long for Morris to make his presence known, taking a wicket with the second ball of the second over, at Whiteman’s expense.

After managing just two runs in the opening over, Whiteman looked to go for a big hit but was ultimately caught out by Aaron Hardie.

Morris would take another wicket with the fifth ball of the 14th over, with Ben Cutting caught by Cameron Bancroft for nine runs.

The fast-bowler would go on to finish 2-21 at the change and would ultimately not bat after the Scorchers took 12.5 overs to surpass the Thunder on 1-112.

While Morris would be rested once again in the Scorchers’ six-run loss to the Sydney Sixers on Sunday, Whiteman’s luck did not fare any better in the Thunder’s five-wicket loss to Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena on Sunday.

After David Warner was bowled for a duck during the opening over, Whiteman (5) would hold on until the fifth over, where he was by Matthew Wade off the first ball.
