It has been a challenging start to the BDCA first grade season for Eaton, who presently find themselves in unchartered territory.

Early losses to Donnybrook and Colts have been less than ideal, but the wisened heads within the Bobtails camp are not worried.

A positive approach of building success was the theme heading into last Saturday’s victory over Hay Park, which served the Bobtails well during their 124-run win at home.

Ahead of their away trip to Roche Park on Saturday for a date with Collie, Eaton’s Clayton Caltsounis told the South Western Times that spirits in the camp were positive.

Although Collie have yet to open their account this season, Caltsounis has witnessed firsthand throughout his lengthy career how hard it can be to win up the hill.

The home side will also likely be left guessing who will line up for the Bobtails, with the final make up of their team — which could include a cameo appearance from a perennial country cricket representative — a closely guarded secret between Caltsounis and seamer Liam Renton.

At Leschenault Recreation Park, a tantalising match up between Leschenault and Marist is every chance of going down to the final over of play.

The Green Caps showed no mercy against Dalyellup last Saturday at home, clattering a club record 366 during their huge victory.

While celebrating this success was pleasant, focus quickly shifted to the Blues — and for good reason, given the fact they are loaded with talent.

Being rolled for 80 during their 154-run loss against Colts last week would have stung Marist, who had an out-of-sorts day with the bat.

While Steve Denison sticks out as a danger man once again for the Green Caps (on the back of last week’s 157 from 72 balls), the Blues’ bowling unit will need to shut down several other key contributors, including Oliver Currill and Tom Buchanan.

The Blues will take heart from the fact that Leschenault did collapse dramatically during the closing stages of their record-breaking innings, losing 3-2 off their final seven deliveries — something which could be replicated if the visitors apply substantial pressure.

In other matches, Donnybrook host Dalyellup at Egan Park, while Colts are odds-on favourites to take care of Hay Park on the road.
