Action will be fever pitch at the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway tonight (Saturday), with the NRG Global/Bunbury Paint Place Production Sedan Gold Cup taking centre stage.

Production sedan numbers are again on the rise in the South West, with drivers travelling from across WA to contest Bunbury’s premier blue-ribbon event for the division.

It is also a perfect lead in for the two round “South West Production Sedan South West Showdown” — which will be held on January 19.

Saturday’s showpiece should produce another thrilling finish, if last year is an accurate form guide.

State champion Barry Rose took out the 2018 event, when he edged out Kane McDiarmid and Wayne Leviston.

Only nine cars from the original 15 who started the night competed in the feature, with McDiarmid getting the early jump.

Rose and Graeme Rafferty fought hard behind him for second, while Wayne Leviston quickly made his way forward into fourth.

Rafferty moved swiftly to work the inside, with Rose on the outside and the duo stayed side by side as they raced their way around the track into the dying stages.

It didn’t take long until Rose would really make his presence felt, sitting just on the inside of McDiarmid for a number of laps until finally a tiny gap opened up and Rose pounced, taking his opportunity and moving underneath McDiarmid to claim victory.

Rose will be once again the one to beat but with drivers such as Leviston, Kyle Sayer and Lee Watt all showing great pace lately, it is very much an open field.

Starting at 6pm, the feature will also be accompanied by street stocks, junior sedans and legend cars.
