Bike event organisers promise a blast along Back Beach
Back Beach Bike Blast takes off this weekend with riders of all ages and abilities enjoying a ride along Bunbury’s coastline.
The 12.5km course will leave from the Bunbury Surf Life Saving carpark on Sunday with cyclists heading north to the Symmons Street roundabout before making their way south to the Washington Avenue carpark and returning to the northern carpark to finish the loop.
Bike Blast organiser David Offer said the ride was about participation and he expected about 500 riders to take part.
“This year’s registrations are flowing, so we think this year will be the biggest yet,” he said.
“It’s a lot of fun riding with a large group of people.
“You don’t usually have the chance to do that, especially on Ocean Drive, which I think is the appeal of the ride.”
Mr Offer said a second hot lap would raise the tempo with some riders expected to take on the full 25km challenge.
“It’s a participation ride, not a race,” he said.
“We control the pace of the ride on the first lap and on the second we let those who want to have a hit out put their foot down and really have a crack,” he said.
Ocean Drive will be closed to motor vehicle traffic on the morning of the event.
