Three birth suites at Bunbury Hospital have had a makeover with the help and expertise of young mums.

The birth suites received $13,000 for refurbishments designed to make the experience more culturally appropriate and comforting.

Young Bunbury mums were approached during the design phase of the project and were full of praise for the outcome.

The refurbishments include murals on the main walls using calming colours, positive messages and supportive equipment such as aromatherapy diffusers, electric candles, beanbags, couches and microwaves.

Clinical midwifery manager Katrina Jones said she was absolutely delighted with the revamped suites and overwhelmed with positive feedback from women and their partners who had used the rooms.

“This further enables us to support and encourage women through their labour and ultimately we hope it will assist in having a positive birth experience,” Ms Jones said.
